Scripture: 1 Peter 1:23 "Being born
again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which
liveth and abideth forever."
Introduction: The Divine
Power of God's Word
In
a confused world, filled with fear, decay, and death, the Word of God is the
only incorruptible and eternal source of life. The image of a flower emerging
from the earth, nourished by rain flowing from the Bible is profound truth of
the Christian faith: there is life in His Word. God's Word is not
literary or passive — it is alive, active, and has the potential to bring real
change. It is a seed of God that begets spiritual birth, feeds growth, revives
the weary, and helps believers to flourish in seasons.
The
Apostle Peter writes that Christians are "born again" of the
Word of God. This is no mere figure of speech. It indicates the supernatural
source of our spiritual birth. The Word is not merely the basis for salvation;
it is the portal to the ongoing process of sanctification, spiritual growth,
and eternal hope.
This
blog post explores the power of God’s Word in its fullness — its ability to
give life, sustains it, grow it, and lead us into everlasting fellowship with
God. We’ll look at what it means to be born of the Word, how to live by it, and
how to let it shape every part of our lives.
1. Born of the
Incorruptible Seed: A Supernatural Birth
Peter
compares two seeds: corruptible (human, fleshly, and perishing) and
incorruptible (spiritual, divine, and eternal). Our birth the first time was by
corruptible seed — prone to sin, death, and corruption. But when we are born
again, we are born of the incorruptible seed of the Word.
- John 3:3-5 – Jesus tells Nicodemus that he
must be "born of water and the Spirit."
- James 1:18 – "Of his own will begat he
us with the word of truth."
The
Word serves as a spiritual DNA, planting God's nature into us. Just as a seed
contains the full genetic makeup of the tree that it will become, so the Word
contains the fullness of God's life, nature, and plan for us. When we receive
the Word by faith, we are transformed from death into life, from darkness to
light, from enemies into sons of God.
2. The Living Character of the Word
Hebrews
4:12 tells us that "the word of God is quick [alive], and powerful, and
sharper than any two-edged sword." Unlike man's words that disappear, die,
and become outdated, God's Word never changes and abides forever. Jesus
attested, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass
away" (Matthew 24:35).
Because the Word is living:
- It speaks to every generation.
- It is always relevant.
- It is a season of revival and restoration.
- It cannot be corrupted or wrecked.
From
the Bible, we see how the Word creates creation (Genesis 1), convicts (Acts
2:37), cleanses (John 15:3), heals (Psalm 107:20), and judges (Revelation
19:15). There has never been another book throughout history that has the
Author's living presence in every line.
3. The Word is Rain from
Heaven
Isaiah
55:10-11 compares the Word to rain pouring down from heaven to water the land
and make it "bud and flourish." As rain, God's Word rains down with
purpose:
- To soften the stiff places of the heart.
- To revive the failing soul.
- To germinate seeds of promise.
- To bring increase and fruitfulness.
As
a flower cannot grow without water, no Christian can thrive without the daily
rain of the Word. Jesus has taught us to "Sanctify them by your truth; your
word is truth" (John 17:17).
Reflection: Is your life parched or
fruitful? What has been the contribution of the Word in your day-to-day
spiritual renewal?
4.
The Word Brings Inner Renewal
2
Corinthians 4:16 says, "Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man
is renewed day by day." How? Through the Word. Romans 12:2 direct us to be
transformed "by the renewing of your mind."
The Word of God computers the mind, changes our outlook, heals hurt, and brings heaven's principles into our lives. It replaces lies with truth, fear with faith, and despair with hope.
- Psalm 119:11 – "Thy word have I hid in
mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
- Joshua 1:8 – "This book of the law
shall not depart out of thy mouth. for then thou shalt make thy way
prosperous."
5. The Word Is Our
Source of Strength in Trials
In
times of tribulation and trial, the Word is our anchor.
- Psalm 119:50 – "This is my comfort in my
affliction: for thy word hath quickened me."
- Matthew 4:4 – Jesus told Satan, "Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the
mouth of God."
The
Word gives us wisdom, peace, and power when we feel weak. The Word tells us to
trust in God's word rather than swallowing our problems. Even when everything
else is still the same, the Word can change us — withstanding and heart
renewal.
6. The Word Produces
Fruit
Jesus
demonstrated in the Parable of the Sower (Mark 4) that the seed is the Word. In
fertile soil, it bears thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold. The state of our heart
will be what gives the Word place to grow.
Fruit
of the Word are:
- Holiness
- Wisdom
- Discernment
- Joy
- Patience
- Purpose
Galatians
5:22-23 informs us that the fruit of the Spirit will express itself in the life
of a Word-saturated believer.
Question: Are you merely hearing the Word,
or is it producing fruit in your personality?
7. The Word Broughteth
the Dead to Life
John
11 relates to us the story of Lazarus. Jesus simply spoke: "Lazarus,
come forth." By His Word, a dead man came out of the tomb.
Even
now, God's Word can:
- Revive dead dreams.
- Revive broken faith.
- Renew lost hope.
- Rekindle spiritual passion to life again.
Prophetic Declaration: Whatever has been lifeless in
your life — your vision, calling, or joy — God's Word can bring it back to
life. Call it over dry bones (Ezekiel 37), and watch them live.
8. The Word Empowers Us
for Battle
Ephesians
6:17 refers to the "sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
It is the only offensive weapon in God's armor. When Satan attempted to tempt
Jesus during the time of his wilderness temptation, Christ responded three
times with: "It is written."
The
Word is your sword against lies.
- It is your protection shield against temptation.
- It is your tool to conquer fear and anxiety.
Encouragement: Do not go to war spiritually
unprepared. Say the Word. Believe the Word. Employ the Word.
9. The Timeless
Character of the Word
Peter
confirms that the Word "liveth and abideth forever." It is not
as temporary trends, cultures, or technologies are.
- It is beyond kingdoms and empires.
- It endures generation after generation.
- It is the timeless foundation for truth.
Jesus
is called "The Word" (John 1:1). To love the Word is to love
Christ. To reverence the Word is to reverence God. Every page of Scripture
points to Him.
Psalm 119:89 – "Forever, O Lord, thy
word is settled in heaven."
10. Living by the Word
Daily
Matthew
4:4 is not only an emergency — it's a lifestyle. We must live by every word
that proceeds from the mouth of God. The plant needs sunlight and water every
day, so believers must:
- Meditate on Scripture (Psalm 1:2)
- Hide it in the heart (Psalm 119:11)
- Speak it in faith (2 Corinthians 4:13)
- Obey it without compromise (James 1:22)
Conclusion: Let It Rain,
Let It Grow
The
image of the flower growing in rain in the Word is not representative — it is
real. His Word has life in it.
- Life to be born again.
- Life to be made strong.
- Life to conquer the darkness.
- Life to fulfill your calling.
- Life that will endure for all eternity.
The
Word is rain. Let it fall. Let it seep into every corner of you. Let it add
beauty to your purpose and aroma to your walk with Christ.
Final Prayer:
Lord,
today I am being given the rain of Your Word. Let it seep into the dry ground
of my heart. Let your truth put to death lies, your promises quicken faith, and
your Spirit yield fruit. I want to live by each word that proceeds from Your
mouth. In Jesus' name. Amen.
"There
is life in His Word." – 1 Peter 1:2
